Leaders in local units are encouraged to counsel together to develop activities to prepare both physically and spiritually for the 2016 Concord Montpelier Trek.
Starters for ideas may include, but are certainly not limited to:

- Have an activity or lesson where each youth learn about someone they consider a pioneer (either modern or older) in their own family, and have them share with others what they have learned.
- Hold a registration night.
- Play pioneer games. Practice stick-pulls, leg wrestling, leapfrog, arm wrestling, blind man’s bluff, handkerchief drop (duck, duck, goose), etc.
- Have a pioneer dance or square dance activity.
- Learn pioneer skills such as Dutch oven cooking, mending, etc.
- Find ways to include Duty to God and Personal Progress in your Trek preparations.
- Learn pioneer songs from the Children’s Songbook.
- Sew clothes to be worn on Trek
